Clos Montmartre is a 1,550 square metre vineyard located on the north slope of the Butte Montmartre. It was established by the local government in 1933 to prevent urban development on the site. The plot is planted predominantly with Gamay and Pinot Noir, alongside smaller quantities of Siebel and Merlot. The harvest usually occurs in early October, followed by the five-day Fête des Vendanges festival which attracts several hundred thousand visitors annually.
The festival follows a set itinerary including a grand parade, artisanal food stalls featuring regional French specialities, and an official auction of the vineyard's production. The wine, labelled as Clos Montmartre, is vinified in the basement of the local town hall. Profits from these sales are legally earmarked for social works within the arrondissement. While the vineyard is closed to the public for most of the year, guided tours are restricted to specific seasonal windows.
