The Vinitaly Calendar and Verona City Logistics

Vinitaly occurs annually in April at the Veronafiere exhibition centre. The event serves as the primary commercial meeting point for the Italian wine industry and affects regional transit and accommodation.

The exhibition typically spans four days, opening to trade professionals from 09:30 to 18:00. While the primary trade fair is located south of the city centre, the Vinitaly and the City programme operates concurrently within the historic district. This secondary event focuses on consumer tastings held in Piazza dei Signori and Cortile Mercato Vecchio. Local traffic regulations are modified during this period, with restricted vehicle access around the Porta Nuova district.

Italian law dictates specific DOC and DOCG labelling requirements which are strictly enforced for all exhibitors. The 2024 regulations require QR codes for digital nutritional information on all new vintages. For visitors, the proximity of the Soave and Valpolicella regions allows for technical visits to vineyards where Corvina and Garganega grapes are cultivated. These agricultural areas maintain standard seasonal work cycles, with spring pruning often coinciding with the April fair dates.

Logistical planning for the event requires attention to the regional railway schedule, as Trenitalia frequently adds shuttle services between the central station and the fairgrounds. Accommodation in Verona and surrounding towns like Peschiera del Garda reaches full capacity several months in advance. Traditional dining establishments in the city centre often implement set menus during the fair, prioritising dishes such as Amarone risotto and bollito misto with pearà sauce.
